It’s true. Why would you even want to go to the inauguration if there wouldn’t be any jumbotrons there? Jumbotron rentals really made all of the difference that day. It always surprises me (and probably everyone in the event industry) to see the number of last minute events we do. You would think that most events would like to plan ahead a few months in advance to ensure that they have reserved all of the necessary equipment. This is definitely not the case. I might quote an event three months out, but not get the actual signed contract until two weeks before (I understand that this usually isn’t the event organizers fault)! So remember, if you have an event (especially an event in the summer), be sure to give us sufficient lead time. Although, if we are available, we have been known to do events that are the very next day, that is, if they are in driving distance.

It’s important to remember that there is a distinction between projection set ups and mobile LED screens. Modern LED screens are best suited for an event where there is plenty of ambient light around. The case is, however, many times,regardless of one’s surroundings, there can be so much ambient light that the image sent from a projector is faded. It is important to know that our LED screens do not have this problem. They will be visible, even in the brightest sunlight. The fact of the matter is, our screens are the ideal choice for any event taking place primarily during the day. While it may be the case that projection can sometimes be less expensive, it is simply not practical if your venue has any amount of light.

Mobile or Modular?
There are two different types of Jumbotrons: mobile and modular.
Mobile is what we do; they either come on trailers or trucks. Many times these trailers and trucks will also come with full control rooms, which have switchers, beta decks, laptops, DVD players, and a whole host of other gadgets. Mobile LED screens are a great idea if you have an event that can accommodate the trailer and truck. This solution will almost always be less expensive, as it is not as labor intensive.
Modular LED screens are beneficial when you have an event that cannot accommodate a large truck or trailer (our trailers are pretty small, with an 8′x20′ footprint!). These also seem to be more popular with indoor events. Modular screens are more expensive because they need to be assembled on site. Depending on the size of the screen, it can take 2 – 3 people a day or two just to set them up.
Smaller Jumbotrons for Smaller Budgets
We all know the economy is not doing so well this year. Sponsorships are down, and many times the first component that is cut is video. Let’s face it: You need a stage, lights, and sound, but video? Not always.
Many of the biggest events, that use the biggest screens, just won’t have the money for them this year. One article from IEG even went so far as to say sponsorship on major sporting events could be down as much as 50%.
What is the solution for an event planner? Well, one solution might be to cut video costs all together. If there is no budget, there is not much you can do. What if your budget was cut by over half for the video? It might be a good time to consider smaller units. Instead of two huge 17′x23′ flown screens, a better solution might be four 9′x12′ trailer mounted screens; two screens flanking the stage, and two screens about 100 yards back. You can easily give the other two screens that are a ways back a wireless video feed. In this scenario, you might even save as much as 30-40%, which still sustaining excellent coverage.
